Emailing cshelp@cs.dal.ca enters you into a ticket queue so that we can process your request in as complete and timely a manner as we can. Tech Support cannot guarantee a timely response to requests not sent through cshelp@cs.dal.ca.

Our Service Units

The Faculty of Computer Science is pleased to provide a number of services in order to make your stay at university more enjoyable. These services include:

Tech Support

Technical Support for the Faculty of Computer Science consists of four full-time employees. This team is responsible for providing computing services, including hardware, software and support, to the Faculty. To assist in this, they provide a Help Desk which consists of four full-time co-op and three part-time students.

Student Ombudsman

Anne Publicover is the student ombudsman for the Faculty of Computer Science. She can help with a variety of problems, and direct you to other people who might be of assistance as well. She can be contacted at annep@cs.dal.ca or by calling 494-1199.

Student Learning Centre

The Learning Centre provides assistance to students having problems understanding the material being taught in the core CS courses. It is staffed by senior level undergraduate students and graduate students. Help can also be obtained on problems with writing papers, essays and theses.

Help Desk

The Help Desk provides help on using the computer equipment owned by the Faculty. It is staffed primarily by co-op students and are located on the first floor of the Computer Science building. They can also be reached at cshelp@cs.dal.ca or by calling 494-2593.

Dalhousie Computer Science Society

In addition to the services provided by the Faculty, there is also the Computer Science Society who provide additional services. They are responsible for organizing a number of events, which have included movie nights in the CS auditorium, a series of hands-on hardware workshops, and ski trips. In addition, they operate the Society Desk, located on the second floor of the Golberg CS Building. The Society Desk provides locker rentals and sells blank CDs, paper, pens, and other stationery.

Women in Technology Society

WiTS exists to support, promote, and celebrate female students pursuing or considering a degree within Dalhousie's Technology related programs; to participate in existing programs such as open houses, CS Day, Supernova; and to introduce technology related programs to eligible females. Software

The Faculty is a member of the MSDNAA, a program affiliated with Microsoft that supplies software to eligible students at no charge for academic purposes. The Faculty pays a subscription fee for CS students to participate in this program. See the MSDNAA sub-site for more details. Additionally, Dalhousie's Information Technology Services department provides a number of software packages including AntiVirus and VPN software for students, faculty, and staff.
