Careers in CS

It's a good time to be working in the information and computing technology (ICT) industry. And the prospects are even brighter if you have a CS degree.
The job market for computer science grads has rebounded in recent years and is growing at a rate higher than the national average. Most of the growth is in software and computer services jobs, which are among the highest-paying in the field. In total, over 600,000 Canadians are currently employed in the ICT sector, and the demand continues to grow.
Nova Scotia hosts 14,000 of those jobs, with approximately 75 per cent of them located right in Halifax, the technology hub of Atlantic Canada. It’s a city where world-class ICT companies like Research in Motion (RIM), IBM Canada, and Keane take up shop.
Across the country, demand for qualified employees continues to exceed the employment rate. There are more jobs than graduates out there – a great opportunity for students starting out in the field.
What’s more, a university degree is your ticket to the best, highest-paying jobs in the sector. ICT employees with a bachelor’s degree make, on average, almost double the yearly salary of those with a trade certificate background. Over half of Canadians employed in the ICT industry have a university education, and it’s forecasted that two-thirds of the emerging ICT jobs in Canada will be filled by university graduates.

In total, the ICT industry contributes $140 billion in revenues to the Canadian economy, and is considered by Industry Canada as a key driver of national growth.
Business is booming in ICT, and a Dalhousie CS degree is your ticket to take advantage of all these opportunities.
